First identify the refusal
Keep the decision, portal record, passport and evidence of service. Establish whether the application was for a short-stay or long-stay visa, because the appeal body differs.
Read every stated reason: purpose of stay, resources, accommodation, reliability of information, risk of misuse, civil status or family relationship. The appeal must answer the actual reason rather than merely repeat the original plan.
The thirty-day prior appeal
The mandatory prior administrative appeal must be made within thirty days after notice. A long-stay refusal is referred to the Commission for Appeals against Visa Refusal Decisions; a short-stay refusal is referred to the Deputy Director for Visas.
Keep proof of sending and receipt and a complete copy of the submission. A fresh visa application does not stop the appeal deadline for the refusal already received.
Answer with verifiable evidence
Organise the form, covering letter, financial and accommodation evidence, insurance, reservations, civil-status records and proof of the trip’s purpose. Add the specific records required for family, study or employment plans.
Every document should be consistent with the dates, budget and statements made to the consulate. If the refusal raises authenticity or a contradiction, address that point directly and explain the document’s origin.
After the prior appeal
Silence or rejection by the prior-appeal body may permit proceedings in the Nantes Administrative Court. The relevant starting point and court deadline should be established from receipt records and any express decision.
The court application should not merely reproduce the administrative appeal. It must identify the challenged decision, the alleged errors and the evidence supporting each point.
Counsel’s role
Counsel checks admissibility, identifies the visa and competent body, frames the response to the refusal reasons and preserves a complete record of transmission. If needed, she then prepares proceedings before the court.
A challenge does not automatically require the consulate to issue a visa. The outcome depends on the reason, legal framework and strength of the evidence.

You can send the firm the essential facts, relevant dates and any known deadline.
Frequently asked questions
Can I reapply instead of appealing?
Sometimes, particularly where the file can be corrected, but a new application does not preserve the deadline against the first refusal. The options should be compared promptly.
Must the appeal be in French?
A submission to the French authorities should be usable in French, with translations where foreign documents cannot otherwise be understood.
Should I send originals?
Keep originals unless the authority expressly requests them. Send clear copies and retain an exact copy of everything submitted.
